Coach Neal Hatten, a dedicated South Carolina native, brings 15 years of coaching experience and a proven track record of success to the Lady Upward Stars program. Married to Stacy Hatten, with whom he shares three adorable children, Coach Hatten has made a significant impact in the world of basketball. His career is marked by numerous wins and a strong reputation for mentoring athletes, helping them build confidence and enhance their skills.

Over the past four years, Coach Hatten has made notable contributions to girls' basketball in both the lower and upper state regions. His guidance has led multiple athletes to continue their careers at the collegiate level. Now, with his wealth of experience and passion for the game, Coach Hatten is excited to lead and elevate the Lady Upward Stars program to new heights.

STARS CLUB DIRECTOR
Curtis Wheeler, a North Augusta, SC native, brings over 20 years of experience in grassroots basketball to his coaching career. For the past decade, he has been dedicated to fostering young talent in Spartanburg through his work with Upward Sports and guiding Stars Basketball. Curtis is passionate about developing players both on and off the court, focusing on skill development and character building. His commitment to the game and his community has made him a respected figure in youth basketball circles.

CLIFFORD (CL) BUTLER II
Co-Director of Stars Basketball
Clifford (CL) Butler II brings over 30 summers of grassroots basketball experience as Co-Director of Stars Basketball. As the General Manager for the boys' travel teams, CL plays a pivotal role in shaping young athletes' futures. His extensive background as an evaluator, scout, and recruiter has enabled him to guide numerous student-athletes toward their dreams of playing collegiate and professional basketball.
CL’s deep understanding of the complexities of the basketball recruiting landscape allows him to personally support each athlete and their family. His commitment to fostering talent and providing individualized attention has made him an invaluable resource in the basketball community, helping young players navigate the challenging path to success both on and off the court.

With over 20 years of coaching experience, Coach Sean Mims brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to the Upward Stars program. His extensive career spans from collegiate coaching to Parks and Recreation, where he has consistently mentored and developed players both on and off the court.

As the founder of Hoopsedu, Coach Mims has created invaluable platforms for player growth through skill development, camps, and showcases. His commitment to education, paired with 20 years as an educator, underscores his holistic approach to coaching. As one of the original coaches from Upward Stars' inaugural season, Coach Mims now serves as the Director of Coaches, guiding and supporting the program’s coaching staff with his unparalleled expertise and passion.
